Alicia, when are you going to start crewing up for your doc?
Hey guys! It was great to attend the opening night of the Chicago International Latino Film Festival Friday night. Gerardo Tort is a friendly guy and was gracious enough to interview with us in English, even though he said he's not completely fluent. As you heard from the video, Gerardo believes it's not the medium, but the message that counts in filmmaking, and I couldn't agree more. Many young filmmakers are telling brilliant stories using new digital equipment that is both more economical and more mobile than ever before. As HD technology becomes ubiquitous, you'll see more importance being placed on quality story-telling. I often shoot on a Canon Vixia for Cinefile when I'm in the field, and I think it's a great camera for the web. You can shoot in HD for less than $1000 and still get many of the settings you'd find on cameras 3-5 times as expensive. Let me know what you're using to film and tell me what you found most interesting about the comments and people featured in our video about the 2010 Chicago International Film Festival. -Alicia
