Rear Window Remix

This is an astonishing video and if you're a fan of the film it makes it even more astonishing knowing how he put this together in such a beautiful, seamless remix of scenes from the amazing set Hitchcock had designed. This is a real treat. It's the best thing I've seen on Vimeo in a while.

Self-promotion vs. Self-importance: Keeping Your Head While Getting Yourself Out There

Michael Tenzer Apr 12, 2012

There is no question that social media and online promotion are invaluable tools for artists, especially filmmakers. The internet plays host to so many exhibition spaces, fund-raising platforms and marketing tools that the pre-web film industry standards of distribution and promotion have morphed into a dying old beast. However, new media is a double-edged sword. The power granted us by the gods of technology must be used responsibly and genuinely.

While technology has liberated independent filmmakers from the expensive, superfluous shackles of the old ways, there is an inherent pitfall that awaits many of us, if we are not mindful ...

Sexy Chocolate (Indiewire)

Marco Faulkner Apr 08, 2012

Great article with a different take on African American's in Hollywood.

From Indiewire;

While in retrospect, the films of the Blaxploitation era provided us with many cringe-worthy moments, they did contribute two things that can be viewed as positive. Black actors got work. And it was abundantly clear not only that Black was beautiful, but it was damn sexy to boot!

Many a curious adolescent snuck into a screening at the multiplex from some G rated fare next door, and the more daring braved a trip in the trunk of the car, to enjoy the experience at the drive-in ...

A Dream Filmmakers Kit For $4,600

Michael Liuzza Apr 01, 2012

$4600 Indie Kit

This summer I will embark on co-producing and co-shooting my first offical short with my friend, Brian Hischier. While we are going to have to wing-it withouth many of these filmmaking goodies, below is my personal wishlist of items I think any indie-digital-filmmaker can leverage to significantly evelvate the production value of their work. I have looked over a lot of equipment over the years. This is what I would consider to be the ultimate package deal. (Assuming you already have a camera and a editing station)

All of this equipment can be purchased for around $4,600. Not bad ...

Michael Liuzza Jan 26, 2012

Giallo Images

From Wikipedia:

Giallo (Gialli) is an Italian 20th century genre of literature and film, which in Italian indicates crime fiction and mystery. In the English language it refers to a genre similar to the French fantastique genre and includes elements of horror fiction and eroticism. The word giallo is Italian for "yellow" and stems from the origin of the genre as a series of cheap paperback novels with trademark yellow covers. •••

Like a handful of Japanese films of the same period, The Italian giallo is worthy of recognition due to its contribution to the contemporary horror film genre. Many cult ...

CANON T3i Has Arrived

From DP Review:

"Last month Canon unveiled the Rebel T3i (EOS 600D) upper entry-level DSLR. It continues to use the 18MP CMOS sensor seen in the Rebel T2i (550D) but gains a tilt and swivel 1,040k dot LCD monitor like the one offered on the more expensive 60D. It also gains the ability to remotely ...
