Alaska: a big state for the big (and little) screen!

The first thing to know is that Alaska is BIG. How big? Alaskans like to say that if you cut Alaska in half it would make Texas the third largest state. That’s a lot of real estate – and a lot of different landscapes and ecosystems. Across Alaska are a nearly unlimited number of potential filming locations – so unless you’re looking for sun-baked cactus in the desert, Alaska can help realize your vision.

With a base rate of 30% on below and above the line spending in Alaska and additional percentages for local hire (+10%), off-season, October to March (+2%) and shooting in a rural areas (+2%), our incentive program offers up to 44% in a transferable tax credit to encourage projects to greenlight Alaska. With up to $100 million available and a minimum spend of only $100,000, most projects can qualify.

Albuquerque, New Mexico's largest city, is a unique combination of the very old intermixed with the very new. The city offers a spectacular blend of diverse culture, cuisine, people and style. The population of the greater Albuquerque metro area is 712,738, and the city spreads over 180 square miles.

New Mexico's financial incentives are the most aggressive in the nation and there is no location fee required when filming in state-owned buildings. Albuquerque is the hub for talent, crew, sound stages and equipment in New Mexico.
With urban cityscapes and suburban small-town looks, prairie land and forest, old Victorian homes and ultra-modern dwellings, Albuquerque can easily double as Anywhere, USA. Our city's production community is highly experienced and always committed to making each project a success. The City of Albuquerque and the State of New Mexico offer tax and investment incentives for film and television production.

Many of you may not be aware of all the filming that takes place in Berkeley. Our city has played host to some very memorable movies. We’ve also been the backdrop to many commercials, photo shoots, documentaries and television shows.

There are many attributes the City of Berkeley and University have to offer the film industry. Location professionals scout and admire our architectural buildings and residences, varied landscapes and views from Tilden Regional Park to the Berkeley Marina, tree-lined shopping districts and neighborhoods.

Research shows the “first” documented movie to film in Berkeley was back in 1919. The film was called “The Fear Woman”, a Samuel Goldwyn Picture, directed by J.A. Barry. Now, we’re pretty sure this wasn’t a block-buster per se, but if you’ve seen it or heard of it, please let us know.

Incredible Time-Lapse, Tilt-Shift Remix Of Rear Window, by Jeff Desom

Rear Window Remix

This is an astonishing video and if you're a fan of the film it makes it even more astonishing knowing how he put this together in such a beautiful, seamless remix of scenes from the amazing set Hitchcock had designed. This is a real treat. It's the best thing I've seen on Vimeo in a while.
