Location: Chicago, IL
The Film Studies Center at the University of Chicago and the French American Cultural Exchange present free screenings of five contemporary French films, representing an impressive range of styles and genres by innovative filmmakers of various levels of emergence. Highlights include Claire Denis' intimate, but painful family drama 35 Shots of Rum (2008); master director Jacques Rivette's farewell to cinema and performance through an allegorical circus in Around a Small Mountain (2009); and The Last Mistress (2007), provocateur Catherine Breillat's exploration of female sexuality and desire. http://filmstudiescenter.uchicago.edu

Incredible Time-Lapse, Tilt-Shift Remix Of Rear Window, by Jeff Desom

This is an astonishing video and if you're a fan of the film it makes it even more astonishing knowing how he put this together in such a beautiful, seamless remix of scenes from the amazing set Hitchcock had designed. This is a real treat. It's the best thing I've seen on Vimeo in a while.

Good to see some of those filmmakers are still active. With the exception of Truffaut, French filmmakers seem to last the longest.
