And alas! Major voices in the industry finally recognizing (and realizing the potential of) what we here at Cinefile have been preaching the past 24 months. Good piece.
Now that the indie finance model has collapsed and foreign presales and hedge funds have dried up, helmers have had to get creative, innovating new ways of survival, everything from slashing budgets to cultivating well-heeled allies and tapping crowd-funding websites. . Film Festivals from the entertainment source: Variety. Sundance: Five ways to survive.

Cheapjack, do you mean theatrical distribution? I think for many true indies that's in the past. We are at a point now where technically we no longer need theaters. The future of niche content is online and in mobile devices, net-connected TV. That is where people should be setting their sites. We just need more intelligent venues in these areas. The time is ripe for such opportunity all across the board, definitely for artists and also producers who can adjust their overall value ($$) system.

I do wonder about the distribution for pictures like that -- largely because that's what we're focused on making. I'll be interested to see if any of this year's entries break out. Even a little.

James is proving to be a real model for indie film making success. His 2009 film Made in China was a festival hit last year and can be seen soon on IFC. He is set to release his latest indie film, Joint Body soon. Thanks James! You Rock!
Incredible Time-Lapse, Tilt-Shift Remix Of Rear Window, by Jeff Desom

This is an astonishing video and if you're a fan of the film it makes it even more astonishing knowing how he put this together in such a beautiful, seamless remix of scenes from the amazing set Hitchcock had designed. This is a real treat. It's the best thing I've seen on Vimeo in a while.

Very interesting. I had been thinking the exact same thing lately. Luckily all my actors and musicians work on a contingency basis and I do all my animation work, prop design, set design myself so all I have to be concerned about is TIME, not money.
