We've got some interesting shoots coming up with some doers in the Indie world. Micro Cinema mania is upon us. How far can it go? We all shall see.
Nelson finally interviewed Indie producer and instructor, James Choi, at Depaul University where he also helps teach Digital Filmmaking. James gives some excellent insight on his perspective of the current industry as well as some of his own experience with producing the 2009 award winning film, Made in China.
Wednesday we interview James Choi. James is really in tune with the indie side of the industry. He's had some really nice success including Made in China. If you haven't seen this movie, you really should. It's a testament to how run and gun, micro-budget movie-making can be just as good as the multi-million dollar films of Hollywood. James also recently produced Joint Body. See the link below to checkout Made in China.
Welcome to the official web site for the award-winning independent film, Made in China. Produced by James Choi and directed by Judi Krant.
Next monday we will be on the set shooting "Me". I'm shooting the sequences that feature myself as I provide insight and commentary on the current indie outlook and the wider industry picture. I will be discussing new content and new producers and what they are doing and can do to participate in paid content and I also plan to talk a little about Google TV and the importance of continuing to work towards diversifying what we watch on TV and within VOD venues.
We have booked our next two interviews... Indie Producer/Filmmaker James Choi, who produced last years indie festival hit, Made In China and Indie Filmmaker Richard Diaz who is currently shooting his feature Dark Light. Very excited about both interviews.
A cool exterior street shot we did outside the Zacuto offices on Ontario Blvd. This is pre-color correction. I did a slow pan from the street to the Zacuto sign above to act as a transition. This was shot at 4:15 PM on a overcast day so the natural light was near perfect and the street signs gave it great atmosphere.
We did our first interview! Steve Weiss of Zacuto was very gracious and gave us tons of great insight into his business and some of the trends of the past and how things have changed to re-shape the indie world as we are seeing it today. Steve is really informed and has great ideas. Attached is a shot from the interview.

Sounds excellent! I agree, this website is a testament to how things have changed and will continue to do so. It's exciting times. I'm glad to see you guys are making your own features. Very excited about this. When will it be ready to view?
Thanks! We just started production. It's going to be about 8 weeks, possibly shorter but hopefully not much longer. We will keep everyone informed.
"This Is New Cinema" is the first Cinefile.com exclusive production. This documentary is focused entirely on the evolution of a brand new movie & content industry that is rapidly surfacing thanks to new technology in high-quality digital cameras, production equipment, online promotion, distribution and focused VOD venues. Couple this with a growing population of independent artists and new forms of entertainment and content and we find that a new type of cinema is emerging. We speak with various industry experts and independent artists about what they are doing and what's happening now in this new secondary industry and what we can expect in the very near future.

Thanks! It's a cool street with all the lights. The steam bellowing from the vent on the side was unexpected. It made a nice transition shot.
