Kevin Smith: indie god, or big let down?

For a long time I've had a major issue with the way Kevin Smith has conducted himself, both as a filmmaker and semi-popular personality. He's tries to play up this surly bad-boy geek whose on the fringe of culture - filled with criticism of various mainstream topics including film. But he's not. He's an established personality that works in the system as much as outside of it. I feel this recent action of his just kind of justifies things for me. It's easy for him to buy his own movie for so cheap because he's already made a good amount of money on his past films, his radio show and his comic books.

He's already got that built-in audience that will gobble down whatever he's shoveling so it's all extremely disingenuous (as the author of the article had cited). His exposure is already established. I felt the same way when Radiohead let you name your own price for their album "In Rainbows." Sure, it was a cool, revolutionary concept, but it was coming from a band that was already well-es...

This is an astonishing video and if you're a fan of the film it makes it even more astonishing knowing how he put this together in such a beautiful, seamless remix of scenes from the amazing set Hitchcock had designed. This is a real treat. It's the best thing I've seen on Vimeo in a while.
