The 2011 Cannes Film Festival is in full swing this week and while landmark film events like The Tree of Life and Melancholia are taking centerstage, it's important to remember that Cannes is also a place for movie business! In fact, the much-talked about Australian drama Snowtown--from first time filmmaker Justin Kurzel--has just been picked for UK distribution by Revolver Entertainment. Screen Daily has the story (and here's hoping that news of a U.S. distrib schedule comes soon too):
"Protagonist Pictures is handling worldwide sales, and also sold French rights to ARP.
There was said to be a bidding war for the UK rights.
The UK deal was negotiated by Revolver’s new Head of Acquisitons Dave Bishop, Charlotte Van Weede and Ben Roberts for Protagonist.
Madman has Australia rights and opens the film theatrically tomorrow. The film was a critical and audience hit upon its world premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival.
The film is based on true events, about a teenage boy who falls under the spell of a father figure who turns out to be a serial killer. The cast features Lucas Pittaway and Daniel Henshall."

This is an astonishing video and if you're a fan of the film it makes it even more astonishing knowing how he put this together in such a beautiful, seamless remix of scenes from the amazing set Hitchcock had designed. This is a real treat. It's the best thing I've seen on Vimeo in a while.
